Privacy Policy

How Hogalytics collects, uses, and protects information.

This Privacy Policy explains how Hogalytics handles information when you use the Hogalytics mobile application on iOS or Android. By using the app, you agree to the practices described below.

Effective date: October 5, 2026 Contact: hogalytics@cannappy.org

1. Scope

This policy applies to the Hogalytics mobile app. It covers information collected through the app itself, information you choose to enter into the app, and information retrieved from your PostHog workspace when you use the app's features.

2. Information We Collect

Information you provide directly

  • Your PostHog personal API key, which you enter to connect your PostHog account.
  • Your selected PostHog cloud region and project selection.
  • Feedback, only if you choose to send it from the app: the kind of feedback (bug, idea, praise or other), your message, and your email address if you give one so we can reply. It is sent with the app's version and whether you are on an iPhone or an Android phone.
  • Any information you include when contacting us by email.

Information stored on your device

Hogalytics stores the following locally on your device so the app can function between sessions:

  • Your PostHog API key. It stays on your device and is sent only to PostHog, to fetch your own data. We never receive it.
  • Your selected region and project IDs.
  • Your settings: theme, chart style, and whether you share anonymous usage data.
  • When you first opened the app, on how many days you have opened it, and when it last asked you for a rating, so it asks rarely.

Information retrieved from PostHog

When you use the app, it sends requests to the PostHog APIs for the region you selected and may retrieve:

  • Organization and project metadata.
  • Event definitions and analytics query results.
  • Session recording metadata and replay-sharing tokens.
  • Shared replay pages shown inside the app or in your browser.

This information is shown to you in the app. It is not sent to us.

Anonymous usage data

Unless you turn it off in Settings, Hogalytics sends anonymous usage data to our own PostHog project, so we can see how the app is used and improve it. It is made up of:

  • Which screens of the app you open, under fixed names such as "dashboard" or "settings".
  • A short, fixed list of things done in the app: connecting a key, or failing to (with the region and the kind of failure); updating a key; switching project; changing the time range, the chart style or the theme; choosing which events to show; tapping one of the biggest changes; opening a replay; opening the feedback form or sending feedback (its kind and whether an email was given, never its words); and being asked for a rating. Counts are only ever sent as rough ranges, such as "2-5".
  • When the app is installed, updated, opened or put in the background.
  • Details of the app and device: a random identifier for the install and one for the session, the app's version and build, the device's maker, model and type, its operating system and version, screen size, language, time zone and network type (on Android, the mobile carrier's name).

PostHog receives your network (IP) address with this data, as any server does, and may work out an approximate location, such as a country and city, from it.

This data never includes your PostHog API key, the names or IDs of your projects, the names of your events, any number from your PostHog data, or anything you type. It is not tied to your name, email address or PostHog account.

Hogalytics does not record your screen. Session recording of the app is switched off.

Information we do not request

The app does not request access to your camera, microphone, contacts, photos, or precise location. The app requires internet access to communicate with PostHog and related services.

3. How We Use Information

  • To authenticate your connection to PostHog and display the data you ask the app to show.
  • To remember your settings and make the app easier to use across sessions.
  • To improve app stability, performance, usability, and feature quality.
  • To respond to questions, bug reports, feedback, and support requests. If you give an email address with feedback, we use it only to reply to you or to tell you that what you asked for has been built.

4. How Information Is Shared

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising. Information is shared or processed only in the following ways:

  • With PostHog, in two ways. Your API key is sent to PostHog, in the region you chose, to fetch your own data, and to nobody else. And the anonymous usage data described above is sent to our own PostHog project.
  • With the feedback service we run for our apps (feedback.cannappy.org, hosted on Cloudflare), when you send feedback from the app. It stores what you sent and may sort it automatically with similar feedback.
  • With Apple and Google when you use platform features such as app distribution, ratings, reviews, or store listings.
  • With service providers that support the operation, security, or delivery of the app or this website, as needed.
  • If required by law, legal process, or to protect rights, safety, and the integrity of the service.

5. Data Retention

  • Local app data remains on your device until you update it, clear the app's local data, or uninstall the app.
  • Information fetched from your PostHog workspace is handled according to the retention settings and policies that apply to your PostHog environment.
  • Anonymous usage data is retained according to our PostHog configuration and operational needs.
  • Feedback you send is kept by our feedback service while it is useful for improving the app.

6. Your Choices

  • You can choose not to provide a PostHog API key, but core app features will not work without it.
  • You can update your API key, region, and project selections within the app.
  • You can turn off anonymous usage data at any time in the app's Settings, under Privacy, with "Share anonymous usage data". Nothing more is sent once it is off.
  • Sending feedback is your choice, and so is giving an email address with it.
  • You can remove locally stored data by clearing app data on your device or uninstalling the app.
  • You can ask us to delete feedback you have sent by emailing hogalytics@cannappy.org.
  • You can contact us to ask privacy-related questions at hogalytics@cannappy.org.

7. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures to protect information. No method of storage, transmission, or security control is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Children's Privacy

Hogalytics is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children through the app. If you believe a child has provided personal information, please contact us so we can review the issue.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the effective date at the top of this page. Your continued use of Hogalytics after an update means you accept the revised policy.
